PCT Week 5

Wrightwood (mile 363.4) ----> Green Valley Fire Station (mile 478.2) Miles until Canada: 2171.8      I've been doing a terrible job of documenting this adventure so here's an actual try. During this week, we spent more nights in town than usual and hit 400 MILES. What a crazy string of words to come out of my mouth. We summitted Baden Powell right after leaving the town of Wrightwood. At the top, there were 2 events worthy of note: an intense snowball fight AND we got to witness the proposal of our favorite Lithuanians on earth.       This week was full of some 20+ mile days which is exhausting, but SO full and SO exciting. Yeti and I trekked for a couple days through the high desert, camping on top of a peak and seeing the most beautiful sunrise over a sea of clouds. We hiked down into the clouds over the span of the next morning, eventually reaching the town of Acton where the rest of our trail friends/bubble/family met up for the night....

Week 1: Things that sucked and things that didn't.

Keeping up with journaling on trail is much more of a chore than I anticipated. I've been out here for the better part of 2 weeks and have only finished writing through day 4. Nice. I hate typing notes on my phone so what usually happens is that I cram tiny words into my notebook and then speak it into my phone where it pops up here.  The problem is that for a week in a row now, I've laid down in my tent after hiking for hours on end in the ruthless wind. I've laid down in my tent with my notebook open and headlamp propped in the mesh pocket above me, ready to write my thoughts and experiences from the day. I get about 2 sentences down before I close my eyes "for a second" only to wake up at 5am to an open notebook and a dead headlamp. So if you were hoping for a detailed update, I'm here to let you down! Instead, despite my hatred of the notes app, here are a few entries I've managed to type out over the past few days that might open up a little window in...

The Knock and the Beginning

3/21/25 On the plane to San Diego It has begun! I'm officially unemployed, moved out,  and in the air on my way to start the P acific Crest Trail. I'm scared.  I don't want say it out loud because it dampens my confidence  and reveals that I am not 100% prepared for what I'm about to attempt. Still,  fear is no t necesarily a direct result of unpreparedness. I could be "prepared" for anything on trail and it still wouldn't always play out exactly how I'm expecting or hoping.  I could be "prepared" for every situation and still be afraid of the fact that I've never done this before. So here I am, definitely  not 100% ready for every aspect of the trek ahead- that's not how this works. I'm pretty sure that's not how anything works. But here I am, as prepared as I  can be at this point.  Yesterday it sunk in deep that I COULD get lost. I COULD have my electronics die on me or have an  uncomfortable hitch or get injured.  I COULD ...
